In this paragraph I will show you how I made my alphas that I used when modeling the creature. First of all, download from http://www.3d.sk the images with the crocodile, like the one shown below.

Chose a suitable part of the image and crop it

Then, using Photoshop, blur it a little bit.

Desaturate the image.

Increase the contrast a bit.

Create a new layer and fill it with a radial gradient from white to black.
