“Making of Qiane ” by Shreya Shetty
I worked on the cushions she was resting on and added more detail there and at the same time tried to show the influence of her weight on it. I also slightly repainted her figure around the edges.
Added finishing touches here and there, and it’s done!
Painting Efficiently:
Managing Workspace:Photoshop (and most other painting software) offers so many choices that it’s easy to get overwhelmed and get lost in the various options that are offered. However, it is perfectly possible to paint with the basic minimum tools. It’s a good idea to keep your workspace uncluttered so you don’t spend too much time looking and sorting through the various windows.
Layers :Photoshop allows one the flexibility of saving multiple versions of the files. So it is not necessary to have thousands of different layers with different parts of the painting in each. Most of the times, 2 or 3 layers will suffice. This will help you spend more time on the painting itself than looking through the various layers looking for the one you need. Also, often with different layers it is easy to make mistakes and paint in the wrong layer even if they are labeled correctly. Most of the times, I use two layers- one for the foreground and one for the background, and occasionally another temporary layer if I am testing something( which I’ll flatten down once I am happy with it )
The tabs I use most often are the Navigator, Brushes and the Layers tab along with the toolbox. Anything else is mostly just unnecessary.
Customising Brushes : Your brush is what you will use to apply the ‘paint’ on your ‘canvas’ . So it is very important to be able to customise your brush to get exactly the kind of brushstroke that will contribute to a specific look of the painting. You can use brushes to add a variety of textures to your painting.Custom brushes can also help to eliminate the plasticy artificial feel that most digital paintings end up getting.
A custom brush basically means a brush that you have created yourself for a specific kind of stroke. In Photoshop, I usually make a 500x500px image and doodle on it till I get a nice interesting shape. You can also extract textures from images that you have or mix and match dabs from your exisiting brushes, or do all three!
Once you are satsfied with your brush, go to Edit-.psd>Define Brush Preset and name your brush. This turns the image you have into the brush . Remember, in your image the black areas will be where you brush will be opaque, the grey areas will be translucent accordign to the value and white would be transparent. So you can try adjusting the image till you get a decent rage in your brush.
