This piece is called “Image Junkie”. It’s a self portrait based on an artificial intelligence robot in a novel by William Gibson.
His robot, in orbit, collected bits of information from electronic transmissions, and sifted through them as a way to understand humanity. In this picture, the robot (me) is sifting images as a visual metaphor for how I go about making a digital collage. This particular image was made largely from photos of an old steam engine in the Boston Museum of Science.
